Last week in Science a paper from CBSG project leader Bart Thomma and his group was published on how plant (and perhaps human) pathogens have evolved molecular mechanisms to stay under the radar of the plant host defense systems. By being able to avoid detection by the plant the pathogen is then able to fully infect the host. This paper has received much attention in various newspapers / radio programmes.
